Weird Q about fridge w/water in door...

I'm new to this board and couldn't really figure out where to put this but this is the closest I could find. My BIL and his wife gave us a refrigerator they had in their rental house because it was nicer than the one we had. Their tenants clearly hadn't used the water or ice maker in the door. The water tasted old, kind of stale. Dh decided to flush it with a little bit of bleach (he pushed this through the water intake hose). Which then made the water taste like bleach. He tried to get the bleach taste out by flushing it with baking soda water. It still tastes like bleach. We have run it repeatedly to get more water through it but it still tastes like bleach. Is there anything we can do to get rid of the bleach taste?

TTC #1 for Dh, #2 for me. HSG clear. Low AMH and endo. Multiple Clomid w/TI cycles - all BFNs. 2 IUIs with Clomid and 1 with Femara - more BFNs. IVF#1 25R, 15M, 15F. 5DT of two perfect 4AA blasts! Positive HPT at 5dp5dt. Beta #1 6dp5dt - 72. Beta #2 8dp5dt - 285. Beta #3 10dp5dt - 793. Both babies have strong beautiful heartbeats! Baby B miscarried at 7 weeks. Baby A is holding on through miscarrying her twin, sub-chorionic hematoma, and complete placenta previa. Stick, baby, stick!

Hmm I'm not really sure what you can do but I do recommend you call the fridge manufacturer to see what they recommend. Also, fridges that have water on the door also have water filters located inside the fridge or on back that should be changed out every so often...that could of been why the water tasted weird to begin with when you received the fridge.

Ours has a filter that is fairly easy to change (there is also a ligth that tells us when to replace it). That might help.

Yes, the bleach is probably trapped in the activated carbon of the filter. You need to replace it. It is located either in the rear of the fridge or under the grill beneath the doors in the front. Pull the old one out and take it to your hardware store to make sure you get the right replacement.

Replace the filter and run 2 gallons through it.
