How large can a door be on a wall?

DH and I are going to close off our loft playroom at some point.  It will make our hall narrow, so we're thinking of adding double french doors with windows so at least some light will shine through making the hall feel more open.  The wall will be 10 feet, we're thinking of doing 5 foot doors (obviously 5ft combined for both, not 2 5 ft french doors).  What's the biggest we could get away with and it not look ridiculous?
