I work at an animal hospital. One of the vets I work for, we've become pretty close over the last 5 years. She told us yesterday morning that her cat is missing. He'd always been an indoor cat until about a year ago he kept escaping and hanging out by the door constantly, so she let him go outside. She felt it made him really happy.
Anyhow, she got a call from her local police department (she'd called them to say that if there were any reports related to her cat, to please let her know - good idea when your pet is missing btw) and they let her know a cat in her neighborhood matching his description was hit by a car and they took care of remains. She lives in a pretty small neighborhood, knows most of her neighbors and given the fact that he was distinct-looking with being long-haired and orange, she is sure it was her cat.
I feel so heartbroken for her. As I started this post to get ideas for a sympathy gift I thought about an "in memory" ornament... but then I thought, would someone want that hanging on their tree to remind them every christmas that their cat was ran over?
Any suggestions?
