How do you deal with letting go of "the plan"

My DH and I do not want kids for at least another 2 years. But, I am currently 4 days late. I can't bring myself to take the test yet to confirm anything.

If I am pregnant, I just don't know how to deal with letting go of our plan. We aren't financially ready at ALL (even though I know they say you will NEVER be ready financially). We live in a one bedroom apartment and just moved 14 hours away from family to have our own little "adventure away". The timing couldn't be worse and I just can't get excited about it. I read posts over on the TTC boards and my heart breaks for people who WANT kids but are struggling. I don't want to take a baby for granted...I just don't have babies on the brain right now! Why is life like this?

Life is unexpected and exciting. Take the test and THEN you can freak out if you need to.

This. and at the end of the day, regardless of whether or not your future child(ren) is planned, you'll love them and things will turn out just fine.

I'm a big "plan" person too, so I can understand it being hard to let go of "the plan".

But, before you panic and try to let go of the plan, take a pregnancy test.  If it's positive, then you need to come up with a new plan, which is scary, but you can do it.  If it's negative, you might be able to stick with your original plan.

Don't stress yourself out with the "what-ifs".  Get some confirmation.

You test and if it's positive, you make a new plan and go on with life.

When I'd been married 3 months my period was 1.5-2 weeks late. I cried. We were not ready for kids financially or emotionally. Now, I just know my period's going to eff with me at least once or twice a year and go on with life after I POAS. Stick out tongue

NOT pregnant :)

I ended up being 8 days late. I have no idea what the deal was! I downloaded an app to help me track my cycle and fertile days and whatnot! Phew!

Wow, I could have written the title for my own life!  We had kids ages 5 and 10 when we decided to have ONE more baby...we got TWINS!  Yep, now I have 4 kids and drive a mini-van!  Totally not my plan.  It's been 8 months and I'm started to adjust to the life I didn't plan.  :)   If you are pregnant, I'm sure it will turn out great.  It always works out! Whatever is meant to be.  Good luck either way!

If you truly do not want a baby at the moment, maybe some BC to make sure it does not happen till you are ready?   It will save you from freaking out like this in the future.
