Restaining Cabinets- making them modern

We are remodeling the kitchen on a budget, doing granit countertops, new cooktop, new backsplash, new tile floors, and want to get away by just restaining the cabinets instead of putting new cabinets in. I gravitate towards more modern/clean line looks, do you think just restaining the cabinets to an espresso color and adding modern hardware will give me that look, or the curves on the cabinet doors will clash with the look I am going for:

I'm no design pro, but I think what you've described would look great! And I think it would give it a more modern look. I don't think the curves on the cabinets would be an issue. The cabinets themselves look like they're in great condition, so I would definitely keep them too.

I think the espresso color would look amazing. I would do a chrome or stainless color handles/hardware. I like the detail in your cabinets. I think it'll look fantastic

I think if you stained them dark espesso and got some nice nickel hardware you'd be good to go! Combined with the new countertops, backsplash and floors, you should be able to achieve the modern look even with the curves on the doors. Go for it!

Have you thought about painting them? It's  an option. I recently painted my "honey oak" kitchen cabinets. It was rather easy and not too timely, as I too was on a budget.

Im so super pleased with the outcome. I spent about $50 for a completely new look. Brought our kitchen into the current century.

Here are simple instrucitons:

Remove all hardware, removed doors, rough sand everything, wipe with dry cloth. Choose a high gloss good quality paint ( I got Behr @ lowes). Apply 1st coat of paint cabinets, apply 1st coat to doors, let dry completely. Apply second coat of paint to cabinets and doors. Make sure all paint is completely dry, attach hardware, rehang doors.
