where should i go on vacation?

i am getting restless, and this warm weather is making me ache for some fun in the sun!  since we are still waiting for new zealand to make their decision, i want to get away for a bit...and take my mind off things.  where should we go?  we don't have passports at the moment, b/c we had to send them to the nz immigration board, so it would have to be stateside.  any recs for weekend road trips or maybe a week at the most?  thanks for the help!

Maybe Monterey for the weekend. You'll be near the ocean, so the weather will def. be cooler. Plus there's great restaurants, the Aquarium, Fisherman's Wharf and Carmel right down the road.
