For moms with money to burn....
http://tinyurl.com/6mduz7 I'm bored, and looking around my work sites. Posh Tots never ceases to amaze me with it's expensive stuff.

Can't focus!
So after dinner last night, I was talking with my husband about how I'm worried that the new school won't necessarily do the business we're hoping to do and that we'll basically never be able to have a baby because I don't want to be working full time as the breadwinner after the baby is born. Suddenly, as though a light bulb had finally clicked (it takes blondes awhile), an idea came to me for a sort of backup plan if all else failed. It's basically the reverse of any other back-up plan we've thought

My Encounter with My Florist...more confused and broke than ever.
So, I went to my florist Saturday (let me say that it was the start of inevitable blowout fight with my fi - which so doesn't have to be analyzed here). So here's how it went down... Me (entering design studio): Hey! Long time no see (its true - I hadn't seen her since Jan and its now April). Florist: Hey! You want an apple? Me:Sure (actually unsure - remember what happened to Snow White?) So I took the damn apple - sue me. The FI was in the car outside fuming so if I keeled over...he would have

I hate squabbling over money
We are trying this new 'system' where we leave the debit cards at home. We each get $30 a week for buying lunch, and random stuff during the workweek. If we have $$ left over, it goes into the 'play' fund. DH is aggravated b/c I spent almost all of my $30. Yep. Bought lunch 2x. Then tonight he calls and asks me to pick up milk & bread on the way home. It was late (~8pm), I am tired, and do not want to drive all the way to the grocery store. I am also out of gas. Yep, I'm a money waster. I spent

you have got to be kidding me
the average cost of a wedding is now 26K or thereabouts? you have got to be kidding me. i'm either too old, too cheap or too cynical to ever imagine paying that much for a wedding. so we're looking at 2 venues this week. "the gallery" and "bammel gardens" for both the ceremony and reception. i'm thinking that we're going to end up paying about 4K for the site. holy cow!!! this better be the best party i've ever been to. at first i had the date 10/18 in my mind for the date then looking at my calendar

Money Money Money
Bored at work so what better way to pass the time than to update my blog. Well it's been about 3 months since we got engaged. FI and I immediately opened a joint savings account to save up for the big day. I had about $3,000 that I had saved towards a down payment on a house. Well I took that money and put it towards the wedding since FI alreadys owns the condo we live in. 3 months into saving, we will have about $7,400 in our account! I am very proud of all the money we have saved so far. And I

Tic-Tax-Toe
This will be a short post today – I’m in the middle of taxes. I can’t stand tax time! Not a big shock. Most people equate doing taxes with getting a root canal. This is the first year my husband and I are filing jointly. It will also be the first time he will be filing online (I’ve been using that method for years, it makes life so much easier). We have all the needed paperwork – so I can’t imagine it will take longer than an hour or two -- it is just the idea of it. Taxes. The word even sounds painful.

MIL: now with 30% less helpfulness
The FI's been accepted to a Communications internship with Disney. IHis strength is work experience. I'm very proud of him! Technically his parents, the doctors, are still debating vetoing the trip. His mother, who I suppose I must elaborate on since I've never posted here before is pure soulless self-righteousness , claimed he hid it from her (he called her the day he got accepted) and is trying to weasel out of taking classes (the program he's in is the equivalent in-class-time as 9 college credits

What I could have bought.....
When I sit back and look at the amount we paid off so far, I can’t help but think of where that money could have gone if we didn’t have any debt. These are some of the things we could have done with $31,000 (I might have to do a new list every time we reach a milestone, this one really reinforced our current spending habits): ~We could have paid cash for a new car. ~ We could have finished our basement, added a bar and a game room, and finished the laundry room with LG front loaders. ~ We could have

It seems like every holiday Matt's grandparents send money. $125 for Christmas, $10 for Easter.. ect.. We started a savings account for Maddie but I am curious to know what you girls do with money given to kids.

Yay for tax rebates!
My coworker sent me a link to find out when to expect your tax rebate to come in. Woohoo! If it goes off of my husband's SSN, we'll get ours May 2nd! If not, May 9th. I'll take it either way! The link: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=729121 There's a little table on the righthand side that helps you figure it out. Show me the money!

No, the sky isn't falling (PSA)
To my fellow nestie bloggers...you have given me many hours of amusement and encouragement from reading your entries over the past few months. I just wanted to share a little fodder with you on this dreary Monday morning. This is a PSA (public service announcement) of sorts... As many of you have woken up to news reports about the stock market dropping again and a fire-sale of brokerage house Bear Stearns, I just wanted to say...DON'T FREAK OUT!! ;-) I am a business consultant, purchasing analyst

Serious Conversation
So I'm at work, and my guy calls me (he calls 2-3 times a day while at work, which I do love...hehe). He asks me what I'm doing, and I'm kind of trying to hide the fact that I was daydreaming about our wedding, but I can't, so I say straight up that I'm planning our wedding. I usually get really scared talking to him about it because it's a touchy subject for us. Especially about financing it. We're not rich, and neither are our families. We'll be attempting to throw this fancy shin-dig by ourselves.

10 month countdown
Today marks our ten month negative anniversary! Things are progressing along well. Yesterday I bought our invitation kits. They're super plain, and kind of match our STD cards. I don't know quite if I like them are not. The paper was only $77, and I got the envelopes, invites, RSVP cards and RSVP envelopes. I want to attach some ribbon some way, glue some more snowflakes, and maybe add some sparkle too. I think it was a really good deal, but they might look too homemade. Especially with my crafting

Money to-do list complete (well, almost!)
As I mentioned in a previous blog post, my credit card debt is finally gone! Whoo hoo! Mike and I had originally planned to have it paid off by this time last year but life happened and I'm sure you know how that old song and dance goes. The important thing is that we actually managed to do it. We still have two car loans and Mike's debt that he brought into the marriage, but now our debt snowball is bigger than ever and we're hoping to have paid off everything but his car loan by April of 2009.

Venue Nightmare!
GAH! I hate trying to find a venue! I think I'm starting to see why people get engaged 2-3 years before they get married...I still think they're a bit nuts, but I can see at least one upside to it. So I've been trying to find a hall that's still available on our original date, 12-6-08. This doesn't seem to be happening. So it looks like we'll have to go with 11-15-08. This wouldn't be so bad, except we've already told TONS of people to plan for 12-6-08. Also, I really want to book something within

Death and Taxes
These are the only two things that are certain in life, right? Well, maybe...but I think the list can be expanded to include the occasional bad mood, snow in Iowa in January and waiting 60 minutes for a table at Texas Roadhouse on a Saturday night. Ah, but I digress... Anyway, it's tax time again! DH gets so excited to get the taxes done it's hilarious. He pours over receipts, he researches every possible deduction he can think of. He just can't wait to see what kind of refund he's going to get.
