Poll: Your Car/SUV (need car shopping help!)
What do you have? Would you recommend it? How's the gas mileage? Does it have AWD? Anything else to consider? We have one car, a '98 Volvo with 117K miles on it. I drive that, and we expect it to get to 200K miles since Volvo's last forever... Except it has rear wheel drive which sucks in snow, so we may replace it for something safer in snow in a couple years (once we have kids). In the mean time, MH needs a car in the next few weeks for work. We are leaning towards a small SUV -- he is a coach

Went on a mini shopping spree...
Carter was in an awesome mood after dinner and feeling pretty well (no coughing at all), so I jumped at the opportunity to run to Target and Michaels. I figured he'd be strapped into the shopping cart and not touching everything. Then I just brought some Clorox wipes with me to sanitize the carts after he got out of them, so the next kid that used those carts wasn't exposed to any germs he may have left. I bought a new bookcase, 4 floor chairs, a couple beach bags, a cork board, some photo frames,

Furniture shopping...
So we just bought our first house and are now starting to think about actually filling it. We currently have a ton of hand-me-down furniture that is in pretty bad shape and would like to replace it with nicer pieces. Priorities are a new sofa, arm chair and dining table. A challenge we've already encountered is that we are looking for furniture that fits with our mill-style house, not ornate or overly curvy/poufy, maybe closer to mission-style, rather than the huge amount of modern/metal style furniture

Online shopping vent: Arg!
Normally I see things in store before going online and buying but I need new clothes and I have the hardest time getting out of the house these days. Forget trying to get out by myself. With DH working full time and going to school full time, I have almost no free time. So I picked a brand that I know and generallly the quality is high and shop there only so I know what I'm getting myself into. Sounds safe enough, right? Anyhow, the last two shipments/orders weren't cheap items but I fell in love

All of my eggs broke in my shopping cart :(
So Tristan and I are sick again :( We go grocery shopping because I have put it off too long and I needed to go. We go out to Shrewsbury to Walmart and as I was unloading my cart I picked up the eggs and they all fell out and broke! Luckily it was one of the last things I took out of the cart. It went all over the cart, the floor, my bottles of water at the bottom. Of course I got it all over my hands because I was picking them up and they didn't even help me clean it I did it all with paper towel

Linens and Things II: A Bright Idea
Our front light burned out … again. Of course, replacing it isn’t as simple as screwing in a new lightbulb. There is a process: 1) Open garage door – carefully avoiding crickets, spiders and other creepy crawies – to obtain step ladder 2) Get a screwdriver to unscrew the cover – no, not that screwdriver, the one that looks like a plus sign. 3) Unscrew the cover – damn, too short … tip-toe time 4) Unscrew lightbulb – dropped it, crap! 5) Clean up broken lightbulb 6) Replace lightbulb. 7) Replace cover

Shopping this weekend!
I know I've been talking to a bunch of you on MC about shopping this weekend. I can't do it tomorrow because I forgot that I have my trainer at 11am and we're meeting with a financial planner at 3pm. Saturday is good for me at International or Westshore, or both! I need some warm clothes before I leave for Chicago on Wednesday night. Anyone interested in meeting up? I think jimsrunnergal is going shopping tomorrow (Friday) for those that would prefer that day. :)

Competitive Birthday Buying
I'm in a much less "hopeless" state today. I might even say that I'm in a good mood. With any luck I will be leaving the office by 5:30pm today. My birthday is coming up in a few weeks, and Kenny is stressing himself with what to get me. This is because of what he did last year (which, I'm going to be honest, is going to be hard to top.) Last year he made me, fully out of construction paper, a "Relocation Package" book, because it was shortly after that I would be making the move to NYC (it was his

Preparation for Parenthood (long post! not for the weak stomachs!)
So last night, I picked rob up from his store, we went to dinner (awesome greek restaurant), and then decided to go grocery shopping. Now you might all think, ok, no big deal... but, i am almost embarassed to say, we have not done a major grocery shopping i'd say since january... our fridge looks WORSE than a poor college kid's fridge and minus the beer! Basically we had condiments, water, 8 cartons of rice milk (dont ask, my DH loves it, i say ewww) and 2 lemons left. Definitely not enough to make

Wahoooo! Shopping spree!
I ordered a 125 dollar gift card from Banana and 75 at DSW with our Discover card points. They came today! It is going to be like shopping with free money! If only I can find a time to get out without the mongrel.

Ikea, Chemo and Catching Up
On Saturday we went to Ikea to shop for our new place (we move in about 6 weeks!) Now if you live in Manhattan you know that Ikea is a day trip... you have to go up to Port Authority and take the bus out to New Jersey. It's fun though. We go about twice a year. I had to control what I bought because Ken kept reminding me that whatever we buy is just more that we have to move. Which is true. That didn't keep me from buying decorative rocks, though. We did find a couch that we like, and an entertainment

Linens and things
“We need towels.” I turn to my husband as we poke through the linen closet. “How is it we don’t have towels? We have a cabinet full of sheets for a bed we no longer have and yet we have no towels?” “We have the towels in the bathroom,” he tells me. “Yes, but those are the ‘show’ towels,” I tell him as he pulls out a Mickey Mouse towel for my 25-year-old cousin who is staying with us for the night. “I know we registered for towels.” “We have the ones from Bloomingdales,” he says. “I think we took

A Little Weekend Splurging
I tried writing this post Saturday night, but something got fouled up and I lost my work....What lies below is a re-write. Saturday was such a beautiful day here in PA that DH and I decided to skip going to the movies like we'd originally planned in favor of making a trip to do some outdoor outlet shopping. I made a beeline for sunglasses first because I lost my only pair a few months ago and have been squinting all the time since. I settled on a pair of A/X shades for a steal of a price. Score!

St. Patrick's Festival
Jason and I went to the annual Saint Patrick’s Day festival today. It was truly amazing. There was Celtic and bagpipe music every where and it just seemed to seep into my blood. Hearing the music was inspiring and it was easy to get lost in the rhythms and notes. I wish I could explain the feeling better; being surrounded by others who so clearly shared your heritage and love for it. The sea of green and gold, the proud men who wore their kilts. Everywhere we turned there were wee ones running about

Tech-Free Night
Ken and I decided that at least once a week we would have a "tech-free" night... meaning no TV, no computer, and most importantly-- I can only check my blackberry once before bed. My job is very demanding. Right now I work 50+ hours in the office, and probably another 12+ hours at home. I love what I do. Right now I'm organizing a regional mall tour and Broadway show. It's just so stressful and time consuming. (FYI... I work in the children's music/developmental programs industry.) I tell Ken that
