First decor project was painting the living room Dalila #319 from Benjamin Moore
We want a piece of artwork for behind the couch, but I keep looking and not finding exactly what I want. I have bought a new fireplace screen and tool set since this photo. The brass on the old set didnt match anything. We have also spray painted the mirror frame black and also spray painted the outlet covers black.
The dining room rug and furniture have been delivered. We spent an entire weekend painting all of the dining room before the furniture arrived. One day was spent taping and priming the red walls. The next day was spent painting the ceiling and all the trim a brighter white. The last day was spent painting the two wall colors. We used Behr paint. The top, dark green color is shadow olive. The bottom, lighter green was a custom color match. We liked a green from another store, another paint line and Home Depot matched the color for us.
We used Vinyl "wood" planks for the flooring in the laundry room. It was super easy and it doesn't stick to your floor. It is a floating floor.
The window trim still needs to be painted white and the drywall isnt 100% finished in there either.
The new front loading washer/dryer set!
We have done some planting and bought porch furniture from Ikea, plus the red hanging planters on the porch.
Our new master bedroom furniture from Bassett. I need to take some photos of our bedroom. It is really unfinished as a room.
We are going to be hosting an intern in our basement for 6 months so not only do we have to finish the basement but we needed a bed for her. We bought this daybed from Havertys. It should arrive May 31st. We bought the trundle for the bed too so instead of an empty space beneath the bed you'll see storage drawers. We'll put bed and bath linens in there.
The intern has arrived and we have been working hard on finishing the basement so she can have a cool place to live. The bathroom is finished! The paint color is Ocean Kiss by Behr
This is the view when you open the bathroom door
This is looking to the right down the little hallway going to the shower
Directly in front of the shower are the towels!
Now that the bathroom is finished we are painting the basement bedroom Key Lime by Behr
Here is the first coat of paint. I think it is too neon. This was taken at night
Here is the same paint during the day with a pillowcase from the bedding held up to it.
This is the basement bedroom bedding from Wrapables. Its bright and tropical. There is green on the leaves but it is hard to tell in the picture
This is what the basement livingroom looked like before the built ins, new staircase, and wood beam. Other than the sofa set, the rest of the furniture is just temporary. (e.g., old college stuff)
These photos don't do the coral color justice, which looks really nice in person, especially when natural light is coming in during the day.
Optically, this is what the color looks like in person. It was a difficult thing to acheive because I had a color in my head that was being very manipulated by the incandescent lights, and the low amount of natural light—all of which introduced a lot more darkness/richness and orange hue to the eye than I'd planned. I actually painted it this color first and it looked like tangerine. I went back with a very pale pink which ended up being correct for the eye to perceive as coral under the circumstances.
The back wall—which does not have drywall, but just the painted cinderblock—is going to be entirely covered in built-in bookshelves, which will bring more white into the room.
A smaller project is encasing the existing steel I-beam with wood to make it look like a solid beam. Some fake wooden pegs will make it match the house better.
These are the old stairs. The wood is actually in good condition, other than being rickety from being suspended. We should be able to reuse at least the saw-toothed parts. I haven't seen the steps themselves under the carpet to know if they would clean up enough, but I doubt they would.
December 2009 basement project: putting in laminate flooring! We went to Lumber Liquidators and bought floating clackable laminate flooring. For 640 square feet it cost us less than $900. DH has been installing it for two weekends and the living room part of the basement is now finished. The base molding will go back up once all the flooring is finished.
Yay carpentry projects
Under the staircase, I am putting in a dry bar to both utilize the space, and to make the staircase solid. There will be no sink like this photo, but the shape of the cut-out will be similar with the supporting wall to the left.
To utilize the corner which was unused in the above image, I would like to put a bottle rack under the bottom third of the staircase. As shown here though, it will be a single hole with something that I put together to slide in. This will allow it to later be used for something else if needs be.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS 2008
We have decorated inside and out. I'm missing a few things inside, like the holiday placemats etc but we have the big things done!
FALL DECOR 2009
SNOW 2009!
Dec 19th we ended up with 2 feet of snow. Poor Snoopy is almost covered and our snowmen next to the driveway are 100% under the snow.
Below are photos we took prior to buying. None of the furniture or decor is ours
