Birth Story:
I was scheduled to be induced on Thursday, December 13th due to preeclampsia.  Well, this baby had different plans!  On Monday, December 10th (37w3d), I had some bright red bleeding.  I had also been having what felt like terrible gas pains since that Saturday night.  My doctor told me to come in and be checked out.  Turns out I was 1 cm dilated and 70% effaced.  She thought the bleeding was due to my cervix thinning out.  So I headed home.  I continued to have light bleeding off and on that day, and the "gas pains" persisted.

At around 8:45 that same evening, I was sitting on the couch and felt a popping sensation.  I immediately stood up and went to the bathroom.  As I sat down, there was a large gush...my water had broken!  I paged my doctor and she told me to head to the hospital.  DH was still at work until 9 pm, so I waited until he got home.  I was running around the house trying to gather up last minute items.  By the time we left the house at 9:30, my contractions had started.  When we arrived at the hospital at 10 pm, my contractions were 4 minutes apart.

I had to go through the triage department, where they confirmed that it was amniotic fluid that I was leaking.  I was 2 cm dilated.  Off to labor and delivery!  Got set-up in L&D by about 11:30 pm.  My contractions were still coming strong every 3-4 minutes.  Let me tell you...I thought I had a high pain tolerance, but I guess not...I was hurting!  I tried to put off the epidural as long as possible, but I gave in and got it at around 12:45 am.  The anesthesiologist immediately became my best friend, and I promised to name my son after him...hee hee :)  Seriously, I was in heaven!

At 2 am, I was dilated to 4 cm, and by 4 am I had hit 8 cm!  Yay for good progress!  Unfortunately by 6 am, I had become "stuck" at 9 cm.  My doctor decided to augment with Pitocin to get me to 10 cm, and by 10:45 am, I was ready to push.  I pushed for almost exactly 1 hour, and Mason was born at 11:53 am.  He was 8 pounds, 7.8 ounces and 21 inches long. He had been posterior or "sunny side up", but my doctor was able to successfully turn him face down.  Pushing was much harder than I anticipated, and definitely was the most painful part (lots of pressure!)  I actually pushed so hard that I broke blood vessels in both of my eyes!

Unfortunately, Mason developed jaundice on the day that we were to be discharged.  So the doctors decided to keep him and start him on phototherapy to help bring his bilirubin levels down.  We FINALLY got to come home 5 days after delivery.  Life is wonderful! :)
